Top Author Tuesday: Meg Cabot

Top Author Tuesday

This week’s Top Author Tuesday is Meg Cabot. Meg Cabot is one of the authors who got me into reading. I absolutely loved her books. Meg Cabot is the author of many books including The Princess Diaries, which has two movies based off of it, the Mediator series, the Abandon trilogy and many more.

I discovered Meg Cabot when the first book in her Abandon trilogy, Abandon, was released. I was obsessed with Greek mythology and it was the first book I ever picked up that included Greek mythology. (Yes, even before Percy Jackson.)

This series follows Pierce, the main girl, who lives in Isla Huesos. I found it really strange because Pierce is a very popular guy’s name here, I had never heard it for a girl. And, it’s really hard to give you a good summary for this so thank Goodreads.

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can’t help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she’s never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she’s moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can’t. Because even here, he finds her. That’s how desperately he wants her back. She knows he’s no guardian angel, and his dark world isn’t exactly heaven, yet she can’t stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

I absolutely loved this book! I obsessed over it! I think, it’s really a hit or miss. You either love it or hate it. There are a lot of mixed reviews. I really loved the first book in this series, probably re-reading it about five times between the first time I read it and the release of the second. I wasn’t even a big reader then.

At the start of every chapter there’s a quote from Dante’s Inferno. I liked that about it.

I just loved the relationship between Pierce and John. Warning: it is kind of insta-lovey.

Also, I’m not sure if it was the fact that I was getting older with each book but I just didn’t like the two following books in the trilogy- Underworld and Awaken- as much as I did the first. I actually felt they were a huge let down. Especially Awaken.

But still, they have beautiful covers. That was another thing I obsessed over. Both the UK and US editions are beautiful.

Another stand-alone I really enjoyed reading was Tommy Sullivan is a Freak, or Pants on Fire, in the US. I remember loving this book when I read it. I also read this book a couple of times.

Other books I’ve read by Meg Cabot: All American Girl, All American Girl: Ready or Not, How to Be Popular, Teen Idol and Shadowland– book one in the Mediator series.

Meg Cabot writes YA, Adult and Middle Grade Novels.

Some of her middle grade include: the Allie Finkle series and Royal Wedding Disaster.

Some of her adult books include: Insatiable, Overbite and the Heather Wells series.

If you’ve never read any of Meg Cabot’s books, you definitely should. She has books for everyone. Also, they’re super short and really easy reads.

(Also, if you haven’t seen The Princess Diaries movie… what are you doing with your life?? You need to watch that movie ASAP.)
